Last week while in New Orleans attending the annual Macaroni Kid Meet Up Conference, I had the wonderful opportunity to attend a Paint Nite event with all the other publishers attending the conference. It was a fun way to close the conference, as it kicked off the annual Flying Pigs Awards Dinner.
The Paint Nite leaders were knowledgeable and encouraging. While they give you step-by-step instructions, they also encourage you to make your painting your own if you want to by adding your own unique touches. At one point I was not happy with the progress I was making with my painting, and the Paint Nite ladies encouraged me to take a short break, get up and walk around and then come back to it. That was just what I needed, and it was fun to walk around and see everyone else’s paintings to see how each one was slightly different, yet they all looked fantastic.
Many times in life, we don’t slow down and take time for ourselves. We are busy running from one appointment or practice to another, making sure our families have what they need and are taken care of, and we lose sight of what we need for ourselves. Macaroni Kid founder, Joyce Shulman, is always encouraging us to “take care of mama bear”, and Paint Nite was a great way to do that. It was relaxing and fun, and sharing that with 150 other publishers was a night I will not soon forget.
Not only do they offer fun Paint Nite events, but there are also fun Plant Nite events in which you can dig in and get your hands dirty as you create a colorful terrarium and plant succulents inside. Take some time for yourself and sign up for an event in your area.
