How to Keep Kids Active Indoors

By Sara-Lynne Levine November 7, 2018

November in Canada means shorter days and colder temperatures. Some parts of the country have already seen snow.

As kids start spending more time inside, here are some out of the box tips and ideas to keep them active and moving:

Hide and seek

Games like hide and seek and tag are great ways for the kids to exert some energy. If you can hack the noise and running, they can turn your house into a playground. You'll be amazed at some of the hiding places they'll come up with.

Pillow fights

Pillow fights are also good ways to keep kids active. Parents can also participate in this endeavour. Find a place away from breakables, give everyone a pillow and have fun (and be safe).

Chores

Chores are a sure fire way to get kids moving. Little kiddos can dust and help put away toys while bigger kids can push the vacuum or mop around, carry laundry up and down the stairs, and clean sinks and toilets. Not glamorous, but why should you do it all alone? If they are old enough to operate a gaming consule, they can spray, swipe and Swiffer.

Exercise in place

Those with smaller homes can still have active kids. Encourage time trials up and down the stairs or see how many jumping jacks or sit-ups they can do in 30 seconds. This is easy to do and doesn't take up a lot of space.

Turn up the music and dance

Get the kids to show you how to floss, flap and shuffle. This is a great way to learn the latest dance moves, latest hits, and allow your kids to laugh at how you dance.
